Talks to Resume Over Strike at Schneider Electric

Negotiations between IAM Local 2069 and representatives of Schneider Electric Square D in Peru, IN are poised to resume on October 15 in Chicago, IL. Workers at the plant began a strike after voting to reject a contract proposal from Schneider that froze workers’ defined benefit pension plan and failed to address key wage, health care and benefit demands.

The strike has drawn global attention to the highly successful French-owned company with pressure from IndustriALL, the global trade federation representing 50 million workers in 140 countries.

“After multiple requests, Schneider Electric finally agreed to resume negotiations for one day only in Chicago,” said IAM Director of Collective Bargaining Tom O’Heron. “Our goal is to produce a tentative agreement that meets the members’ needs and can be presented for a ratification vote without delay.”
