TCU Supports Southern California Striking Grocery Workers Since Oct. 11, 2003, some 70,000 Southern California supermarket workers have been on strike because Safeway, Albertson’s and Kroger are making demands that could effectively eliminate health care benefits for these workers and their families. We must stand together with these brothers and sisters in their struggle against this continuing corporate greed. These profitable corporations are aggressively pursuing an agenda to gut the contracts and to lower the living standards of these UFCW members. Effective immediately the AFL-CIO and the affiliated unions are expanding the campaign in support of these grocery workers to Safeway stores in the Bay Area/San Francisco, Baltimore, MD; Portland, OR; Seattle, WA; and Washington, D.C. TCU members in these areas are urged to support the UFCW striking workers by refusing to shop at Safeway until these grocery workers have a new contract. Safeway is leading the attack on these workers. TCU actively supports this action and urges its members and their families to join this struggle for dignity and justice for the UFCW strikers in Southern California. |
