Tell Congress: No ‘Grand Bargain’ Sellout

Congress has until the end of the year to strike a deal avoiding across-the-board, mandatory spending cuts known as “sequestration” and a series of expiring tax measures, including the middle-class payroll tax cut and extended unemployment insurance benefits.

The so-called “fiscal cliff” threatens to prolong the Great Recession if Congress refuses to act. Trillion dollar cuts to the defense sector, alone, are expected to cost more than a million jobs.

Republican lawmakers have proposed deep, swift budget cuts to social programs like Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid as a way to avoid the fiscal cliff. They’re also opposed to extending the payroll tax cut for working families and unemployment benefits for the jobless.
