Tell the Senate to Protect U.S. Shipbuilding Jobs

Once again, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) has proposed an amendment that would cost American jobs by allowing foreign-built petroleum tankers to engage in domestic coastal shipping. In a letter to the Senate committee in charge, IAM International President Bob Martinez urged legislators to reject the amendment.

“Passage of Senator McCain’s amendment would result in the outsourcing of U.S. shipbuilding to foreign nations,” said Martinez. “Which would not only severely damage our defense capabilities, but would also devastate U.S. commercial ship building and lead to a loss of good paying American jobs.”

Tell your senators to vote NO on this harmful amendment that offshores U.S. jobs.

“IAM members are proud of the critical role that they perform for the U.S. ship building industry at locations across America,” said Martinez. “Our members know that our national and economic security depends upon their vital work. We must not undermine these capabilities; reject Senator McCain’s amendment.”
