IAM General Vice President Steve Galloway announced the winners of the 2019 IAM Midwest Territory Helping Hands Award, affectionately known as the “IAM Helpy.”
IAM District 66 of La Crosse, WI and southeastern Minnesota, District 8 of Chicago, Local 2018 of Indiana, and Mechanics Local 701 of Chicago were the recipients of this year’s award.
“The IAM Helpy Award – now in its second year in the Midwest Territory – is our way of honoring those IAM Districts and Unaffiliated Locals who answered the call to serve their communities as part of the Territory’s ‘IAM H.E.L.P.S. in the Community’ program,” said Galloway. “This year’s round of eligible projects included the renovation and landscaping of local homeless shelters to planting, weeding and harvesting a community garden for the hungry.
“Congratulations to all this year’s recipients. I couldn’t be more proud of all the time and hard work our brothers and sisters in the Midwest Territory are putting into giving back to their community, showing others how unions stretch beyond the workplace.”
The IAM Midwest Territory began the “IAM H.E.L.P.S. in the Community” initiative in the spring of 2017 as a way to provide essential support to residents in need. H.E.L.P.S. stands for Honoring, Engaging, Lifting, Providing and Servicing. For more on IAM H.E.L.P.S. click here.
