Today, July 9, 2015 marks one year since our members at Al Piemonte Chevrolet in East Dundee, IL walked out on strike making this the longest strike in Mechanics’s Local 701’s 84 year history. Our 9 members at Piemonte voted unanimously to walk out last year after their employer violated their rights and contract bargaining was going nowhere.
While it is impressive that these members have stood strong together for a year now, it is also incredibly unfortunate that Piemonte, an employer with whom Local 701 has had a great relationship with at their other Unionized locations, has refused to treat these employees with the respect and dignity that they deserve. These 9 members are fighting for the same benefits enjoyed by the rest of Local 701’s members including our members at the other two Union Piemonte stores.
Currently there is a hearing scheduled for early August at the National Labor Relations Board Region 13 office in Chicago to address the complaint issued against Piemonte.
