Iowa IAM Union Members at Chevron Phillips Chemical’s Performance Pipe Strike for Livable Wage

BLOOMFIELD, Iowa, June 27, 2024 – Approximately 60 workers represented by International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) Local 1293 (District 6) are on strike for a fair contract at Performance Pipe, a division of Chevron Phillips Chemical Co., in Bloomfield, Iowa.

IAM members voted to reject the company’s “last, best and final” contract offer and go on strike, effective 11:01 p.m. CT on Wednesday, June 26.

The company’s offer failed to provide livable wages while the cost of living rises, attacked workers’ work-life balance, and didn’t address members’ retirement security concerns.

“IAM Local 1293 members are standing strong and they’re committed to making life better for themselves and their families,” said IAM Midwest Territory General Vice President Sam Cicinelli. “We call on Chevron Phillips Chemical and Performance Pipe to listen to their employees and treat them fairly. The IAM will stand with our Local 1293 members every step of the way.”

IAM Midwest Territory Grand Lodge Representative Chris Tucker and District 6 Business Representative Gary Pickett are guiding members through this process.

The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) is among the largest unions in North America and represents nearly 600,000 active and retired members in the manufacturing, aerospace, defense, airlines, railroad, transportation, automotive, shipbuilding, woodworking, health care, and other industries.
