Mechanics Local 701 rolls up 3 more organizing wins

When asked “How are you achieving so many organizing wins at First Student?,” the answer from Local 701 Business Representative Armando Arreola was that “good news travels fast.” “The bus mechanics at First Student are hearing about the contracts Local 701 is getting for their co-workers and organizing is becoming a ‘slam dunk’ when we are approached by the mechanics from their other facilities,” said Arreola.

Mechanics Local 701 recently added 6 new members to the IAM family by virtue of organizing wins at First Student in Glenwood and South Holland, IL.

In another organizing win, Local 701 Business Representative Sam Cicinelli brought 5 new members into the IAM at R&J Midwest Equipment which is a fork lift repair facility. According to Cicinelli our new members are looking for the guaranteed wages, benefits and working conditions that a union contract brings.

IAM Midwest Territory General Vice President Philip J. Gruber praised the Local 701 organizing team saying, “DBR Dennis Jawor, BR Armando Arreola, BR Sam Cicinelli and the entire staff of Local 701 work tirelessly to grow the IAM. We appreciate their hard work and wish them continued success.”
