IAM District 77, Vadnais Heights, MN, and its membership recently sponsored the 16th Annual John Massetti Memorial Golf Tournament for Guide Dogs of America (GDA) in St. Paul, MN.
The late John Massetti was the Secretary-Treasurer of former Northwest Airlines IAM District 143. Massetti started the tournament in 2000.
Nearly 70 golfers participated in the tournament, helping to raise $17k for GDA, a charity founded by a blind IAM member who wanted to start an organization that would provide guide dogs free of charge to the blind and visually-impaired.
“District 77 and the Minnesota Machinists want to thank all the golfers and sponsors that helped make this tournament a success,” said IAM District 77 Directing Business Representative John Steigauf. “We also want to thank Mary Massetti for all her hard work and dedication in ensuring this event holds true to her late husband’s memory year after year.”
Mary Massetti, John Massetti’s wife of many years, has been running the tournament as Tournament Director, but decided this year to step down. District 77 Business Representative Francisco Contreras took the reigns with her help this year and ran a successful event.
The District has already reserved Hillcrest Golf Club in St. Paul, MN for next year’s tournament scheduled for Monday August 7, 2017.
