Solis is Confirmed by the Senate

In a Senate vote delayed by Republicans for over 40 days Representative Hilda Solis (D-CA) was confirmed as Secretary of Labor by a margin of 80 to 17. In the vote 56 Democrats and 24 Republicans voted for confirmation. All 17 votes against were cast by Republicans.

Rep. Solis has worked tirelessly to expand job training programs, increase the minimum wage, improve equal pay laws, and make sure pension plans are secure. A true supporter of unions and the Employee Free Choice Act.  “She understands that the Employee Free Choice Act is critical to rebuilding our economy because working men and women deserve the freedom to choose whether to form a union without employer harassment and intimidation,” said AFL-CIO President John Sweeney.

“TCU members and everyone in the labor movement should look forward to the leadership and support that Secretary Solis will bring to the Department of Labor,” said TCU National Legislative Director Bob Davis, “Americans will have a Secretary of Labor who finally represents working people.”
