International President Tom Buffenbarger today announced John Werkmeister would join the Transportation Department as a Special Representative
John initiated into Local Lodge 1018 in Flushing, New York in 1984 as a Line Maintenance Mechanic at US Airways. John then transferred to US Airways’ Pittsburgh hub where he was elected Shop-Steward, Grievance Chairman and Local Lodge 1976 Trustee. He is currently a District Lodge 142 General Chairman.
“John embodies the principles of our great union and has consistently demonstrated his dedication to our organization,” said General Vice President Sito Pantoja. “He will be a great asset to the Transportation Department.”
Werkmeister rose from Line Mechanic to Lead Inspector and holds three licenses (FAA-issued Airframe, Powerplant and FCC-issued Avionics).
Werkmeister was also a vital component of several national organizing campaigns and holds a Bachelors Degree from the National Labor College.
John begins his new assignment on December 1, 2014.
