Carlson Named Transportation Assistant Airline Coordinator

Carlson smallInternational President Bob Martinez today appointed Transportation Department Communications Representative James Carlson to the position of Transportation Department Assistant Airline Coordinator, effective March 1, 2016.

A 24-year IAM member and former Ramp Serviceman at United Airlines, Brother Carlson initiated into Air Transport Lodge 1322 in New York City in 1992. James’ record of union experience ranges from Shop Steward, Ramp Committeeman, Grievance Committee Chairman, Local Lodge President, Vice President and Trustee. Carlson also served as a District Lodge 141 Educator.

“James has a diverse skill set, which includes an impressive academic record, as well as a background in multiple nationwide organizing drives, working with local and national media and experience representing IAM members under the unique terms of the Railway Labor Act,” said General Vice President Sito Pantoja. “Brother Carlson is dedicated to improving the lives of IAM members and will be a great asset in his new role.”

A second-generation IAM member, Carlson joined the Transportation Department staff as the Communications Representative in 2012. James carries a BA from Columbia University and a Master’s Degree in Industrial Labor Relations from Cornell University.
