Earlier this month, the Atlanta-North Georgia Labor Council announced IAM Air Transport Territory Associate Organizer Nicole Fears as “Labor Leader of the Month of May.”
This recognition honors labor leaders and activists who are paving the way and making an impact in their communities. Fears’ stellar background includes helping with organizing CommuteAir Flight Attendants and also assisting in the merger of ExpressJet and Atlantic Southeast Airlines, bringing a combined membership of 2,200 to the IAM.
“Nicole continues to demonstrate that her commitment on behalf of workers’ futures is still ignited and we are proud to have her on our team,” said IAM Air Transport Territory General Vice President Richie Johnsen. “She has been a strong advocate and the voice for those who are struggling to have a union in their workplace.”
Before her appointment as Associate Organizer to the IAM Air Transport Department in March 2022, Fears worked as an ExpressJet Flight Attendant and then was elected to various leadership roles at IAM Local 2339C, including becoming the first Black President for her local and was elected as Vice President for ExpressJet at District Lodge 142.
Fears has also led the Women’s Committee in Atlanta for the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists.
