The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) is welcoming Southwest Airlines Network Operations Control Customer Planners (NCP) employees into the union after a majority of the workgroup signed authorization cards to join the IAM.
The IAM filed with the National Mediation Board (NMB) to recognize the group as part of the already unionized Southwest Customer Service Employees, also known as Passenger Service Employee (PSE), class and craft of employees. PSEs process passengers at the airport and handle customer reservations.
“I am excited to welcome the NCP employees into our workgroup,” said IAM Air Transport Territory Chief of Staff Edison Fraser, a Southwest Customer Service employee. “Our power continues to grow at Southwest Airlines and across the airline industry.”
The NMB agreed with the IAM’s position and determined that the NCP employees were a part of the PSE group.
“On behalf of the IAM Air Transport Territory and the entire IAM family, I would like to welcome the Southwest NOC group into our union family,” said IAM Air Transport Territory General Vice President Richie Johnsen.
NOC employees are based at Southwest Airlines Headquarters in Dallas.
“IAM District 142 is excited to begin establishing contract terms for this newly represented group in the coming weeks,” said IAM District 142 President and Directing General Chair John Coveny Jr.
