Transportation Department Conducts General Chairs Training

The Transportation Department last week gave its eight newly-elected General Chairs from District Lodges 141 and 142 their first staff training class at the Winpisinger training facility. This annual “General Chairs Training” class is given to new District staff members to provide them with a strong foundation as they embark on their new roles.

This class was the first of many training classes that full-time staff members are required to attend. Some of the topics discussed were IAM Policy and Procedures, the Railway Labor Act, Labor Law and preparing arbitration cases.

“The IAM places great importance on training and educating all our reps,” said General Vice President Sito Pantoja. “Providing ongoing training gives our reps the tools they need to best serve the membership.”

Some of the upcoming programs for the staff include: Arbitration, Collective Bargaining, Organizing and Negotiation Preparations for Bargaining.
