The Billionaire Owner of the Trump Taj Mahal Stripped His Workers’ Healthcare. The IAM Stopped By to Call Him Out.

IAM International President Bob Martinez leads a rally outside the Trump Taj Mahal Hotel in Atlantic City, NJ. Workers there are striking against draconian health care, pension and wage cuts.

Hundreds of IAM members, retirees and their families hit the picket line in support of 1,000 UNITE HERE members on strike at Atlantic City’s Trump Taj Mahal. When IAM International President Bob Martinez took the microphone, he didn’t mince words.

The IAM Executive Council joined in to shame billionaire Carl Icahn, owner of the Trump Taj Mahal, who is slashing pay and benefits for more than 1,000 members of Unite Here Local 54.

Watch Martinez shut it down.

“We’re all out here to show solidarity today with UNITE HERE,” said Martinez. “For the last 12 years the cost of living here in this community has increased 25 percent. At this hotel these workers have only got 80 cents raise in the last 12 years, that’s it.”

IAM members carried signs and joined in chants calling for a fair contract for food and beverage workers and housekeepers who have been on strike for nearly three weeks fighting against health care, pension and wage cuts. The hotel still bears the name of GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump, but is now owned by his billionaire friend Carl Icahn.

After addressing the crowd, Martinez presented UNITE HERE Local 54 with a $5,000 check on behalf of the IAM to support the striking workers.

“We stand here today in solidarity for strength, power and success in this strike,” continued Martinez.
