“It’s amazing to see this many of our members out here together enjoying time with their families and displaying their union pride,” said IAM Local 1943 President Directing Business Representative Neil Douglas.

The picnic is not only a great time for the members and their families to come together and enjoy each other’s company, but with 1000 Machinist Union shirts roaming around the park, it’s great advertising.

“All day long we have people coming up to us asking us about our union shirts and what we are about,” continued Douglas. “So, of course, we tell them and give them cards. It’s a great organizing tool.”

The event included admission to the amusement park, a catered picnic lunch, ice cream, door prizes and face painting and airbrushing for the kids.

The Middletown, OH local represents 1,850 workers at AK Steel, Pilot Chemical, RMB and Cummins Bridgeway.
