Negotiations between the IAM and United Parcel Service (UPS) and UPS Freight formally opened today in Fort Lauderdale, FL. More than 30 local IAM representatives are prepared to hammer out a new agreement that will cover nearly 4,000 IAM-represented mechanics at more than 100 UPS and UPS Freight locations nationwide.

Preparations for the negotiations have been underway from months, with support from departments at IAM Headquarters, including Automotive, Strategic Resources, Coordinated Bargaining, Legal and Communications.

“Our representatives are prepared and ready to go,” said IAM Automotive Coordinator and Lead Negotiator Boysen Anderson. “They worked hard to prepare and they are united to resolve both local and national issues in these negotiations.”

The two IAM-UPS national agreements, one covering UPS locations and the other covering UPS Freight facilities, are both set to expire on July 31, 2014. The IAM represents more than 40,000 members in the automotive and trucking industries.
