Voting Begins for Stock & Stores Workers at Delta

Minneapolis Local 1833 member Krista Freeman is one of 700 Stock & Stores workers at Delta who are eligible to vote ‘YES’ for the IAM in the representation election that began on October 25.

More than two years after the merger of Delta and Northwest, and in the midst of record profits for the new airline, Stock & Stores employees at Delta will finally have a chance to make their voices heard.

The National Mediation Board (NMB) this week began mailing voting instructions for a representation election to more than 700 eligible voters in the Stock & Stores classification. The 29-day voting period begins on October 25 and will conclude at 2 PM ET on November 22, 2010.

Stock & Stores employees at Delta will have a choice to vote through a secure website or by phone. Votes may be cast throughout the election period but employees are encouraged to vote as soon as they receive their voting instructions from the NMB.

“The aftermath of an airline merger is a very vulnerable time for employees,” said IAM General Vice President Robert Roach, Jr. “Management is under heavy pressure to cut costs, increase productivity and to realize the ‘synergies’ that were promised in the run-up to the merger. A ‘Yes’ vote to secure professional, independent IAM representation allows employees to take advantage of their numbers and to negotiate a contract that reflects their specific concerns.”

Results of the Stock & Stores election will be announced by the NMB on November 22. An election for Fleet Service Employees is already underway, and will conclude on November 18, 2010. A third IAM election, for Passenger Service Employees, will run from November 2 – December 7, 2010.
