Walker Backlash Claims Another GOP Candidate

Voter backlash against Wisconsin Republican Governor Scott Walker’s unfair campaign against public employees and collective bargaining rights continues with voters electing Democrat Steve Doyle over Republican John Lautz for a seat in the State Assembly that Republicans have held for 16 years.

Doyle won 54 percent to Lautz’s 46 percent in a special election to replace Republican Mike Huebsch, who held the seat since 1994. Huebsch vacated the seat to serve as Walker’s secretary of administration.

Walker’s misguided attack on public employees has also sparked recall efforts against GOP Senators in the State Assembly and conservative recall efforts against Democrats who opposed Walker’s attacks. So far, recall signatures for six GOP and three Democratic Senators are being reviewed by Wisconsin’s Government Accountability Board.
