WASHINGTON, Feb. 12, 2021 – The 600,000-member International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) released the following statements regarding President Biden’s nomination of Julie Su as Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Labor:
“Julie Su has a long track record of standing up for working people and against management overreach,” said IAM International President Robert Martinez Jr. “Her career as a highly respected workers’ rights attorney is filled with examples of fighting for those who do not have powerful corporate lobbyists by their side. At a time when workers need unions and government to have their backs more than ever, Julie Su is the right person at the right time to make a real difference.
“The Machinists Union looks forward to working with Julie Su and Secretary-designee Marty Walsh to restore the Labor Department to its rightful purpose of defending and advancing the interests of working families,” said Martinez.
“Julie Su has a proven record and has worked with the IAM in California to advocate for justice and fairness in the workplace,” said IAM Western Territory General Vice President Gary R. Allen.
The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) is among the largest industrial trade unions in North America and represents nearly 600,000 active and retired members in the manufacturing, aerospace, defense, airline, railroad, transportation, shipbuilding, woodworking, health care and other industries.
