Feb. 4, 2019, WASHINGTON – A statement from Machinists Union International President Robert Martinez Jr.:
“Schneider Electric’s announcement that it intends to close its facility in Peru, IN, and move work to Mexico is just one more slap in the face to loyal U.S. workers. The Machinists Union will fight hard to convince the company to remain open in Indiana, but we will we not accept deep cuts to the wages and benefits of middle-class families. Since NAFTA was implemented 25 years ago, IAM members have lost tens of thousands of jobs, along with hundreds of thousands of other U.S. workers, as companies flee to Mexico. This is just one more reason why the renegotiated NAFTA must end incentives for companies to move work to Mexico.”
