Machinists Union Thanks Biden Administration for Adding Pro-Worker, Pro-Labor Lawyer to the National Mediation Board

WASHINGTON, Jan. 25, 2022 – The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM), the largest airline and transportation union in North America, thanked the Biden administration for swearing-in Deirdre Hamilton to the National Mediation Board (NMB).

Deirdre Hamilton, a longtime labor lawyer and former IAM Legal Fellow will serve on a three-member panel tasked with handling labor issues in the nation’s railroad and airline industries.

“We salute the Biden-Harris administration for answering the need to ensure transportation workers’ rights are protected,” said IAM International President Robert Martinez, Jr. “The NMB can now answer the call of ensuring fairness for workers in our nation’s airline and railroad industries.”

“The swearing-in of Deidre Hamilton to the NMB panel is great news to our members in the transportation industry,” said Richie Johnsen, IAM Chief of Staff to the International President. “Ms. Hamilton will serve in the best public interest of airline and rail workers.”

“Our union members are excited to have someone like Ms. Hamilton who makes sure workers come first,” said TCU-IAM National President Artie Maratea. “As an appointed member of the Dunlop Committee, I look forward to working with Deirdre. Our nation’s rail workers need people like Ms. Hamilton to ensure our nation’s most treasured industry works for everyone.”
