UCubed Calls for Jobs Creation Program on Steroids

Washington, D.C., July 16, 2010 – Ur Union of Unemployed is calling on President Barack Obama to respond aggressively to the joblessness crisis in America.

“America and its jobless millions have suffered long enough,” wrote Rick Sloan, Acting Executive Director of Ur Union of Unemployed. “It is time for the last resort — a jobs creation program on steroids.”

“What is missing is the political will to act decisively, to act with a sense of urgency,” Sloan’s letter continued. “And with all due respect, Mr. President, only you can forge that consensus and demonstrate that will to act decisively.”

In the open letter to President Obama, Sloan urged the President to consider Hire Us America, a 21-point plan developed by UCubed activists and unemployed workers. The plan includes massive hiring in the public sector, a national industrial policy to restore the production of American-made goods, and limits on outsourcing that has devastated our nation’s manufacturing sector.

Ur Union of Unemployed, or UCubed, is a community service project of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) designed to assist the millions of unemployed and underemployed Americans, and to provide them with a structure that allows them to take advantage of their growing numbers.
