HPWO — 5

Local Lodge 1438 and Federal Mogul
The members of IAM Local Lodge 1438 in Wausau,Wisconsin have launched an HPWO Partnerships with the Federal Mogul Corporation. In October 2003 the IAM’s International President Tom Buffenbarger visited the Federal Mogul facility and signed the Partnership Agreement in a ceremony at the plant. President Buffenbarger congratulated the employees on their decision to implement a full-partnership and wished them well as they begin their journey together to create a new workplace culture.

Many other IAM-represented sites have been recognized for their accomplishments as they have developed and implemented together a plan to create a full-partnership High Performance Work Organization. Some of these sites were highlighted in the July 2003 edition of Industry Week magazine.

HPWO Partnerships Conferences

Periodically, the IAM sponsors a conference to which HPWO sites send participants to share information about their partnership and help each site think creatively about their next steps. At these conferences over 100 people attended and represented approximately 25 different work sites. Since the IAM convention in 2000, HPWO conferences have been held in Denver, Colorado and Milwaukee,Wisconsin.

Headquarters Departments
While providing assistance to our members as they implement new work systems, the HPWO Partnerships Department staff coordinates its efforts with many other Departments at IAM Headquarters. These Departments include Collective Bargaining, the Winpisinger Education and Technology Center, Aerospace, Trade and Globalization, Organizing, Community Services, Woodworkers, Strategic Resources, Safety and Health, Employment Services, and Human Rights. The collective efforts of these Departments provide the IAM’s HPWO Partnerships work sites with a high level and great variety of services that will assist them as they work together in the years ahead.
