Andy Powell

Andy W. Powell grew up in the rural outskirts of Lexington, SC, and graduated high school from Pelion High School the summer of 1984. I enlisted in the US Marine Corps in July of 1984, and traveled around with the Marines for over 11 years.  February of 1996, Powell left the Marines while living in Aberdeen, Maryland. For the next 10 years, Powell worked a variety of jobs in the distribution field – everything from warehousing, inventory control, training, to truck driving. With a Class A commercial driver’s license, Powell applied for a position with Jacobs Sverdrup on Aberdeen Proving Grounds and was hired January of 2006. This being a SCA Contract position, there was a lot of learning to do.  This was Andy’s introduction to the Union world. In 2008, Powell was elected as shop steward, then Fall of 2009, to Local Lodge President of IAM LL2424.

After serving 2 years as Local President, District 1 appointed Powell to District Organizer.  While serving as a District Organizer, Powell ran many campaigns, from small SCA 30-person or less units, larger Amazon Middletown, Delaware 1500-person unit. Powell has investigated hundreds of leads sent down from the Eastern Territory, as well as sought out leads in and around our local lodges. Over this 6-year span, Powell has assisted other districts in organizing as well as all organizing activity within District 1’s area of coverage: the Bowhead campaign. The largest success story in our history.  Powell moved to the Grand Lodge in 2018 and looks forward to the opportunity to use his skills and knowledge on the national level.
