The IAM celebrated its 125th birthday in Atlanta, the city of the union’s founding, with the opening of the 2013 IAM National Staff Conference.
The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers issued the following response to the passing of former South African President Nelson Mandela:
“President Mandela dedicated his life to fighting for democracy, equality and freedom. His legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of all who strive for a better and more just world...
Hundreds of IAM District 26 members employed by Pratt & Whitney (P&W) in East Hartford, and Middletown, CT, marched through the factory this week, shouting “solidarity forever” and blowing whistles, to demonstrate their support for their Negotiating Committee currently in talks for a new agreement.

IAM Local 1871 in Groton, CT, completed its 23rd year of providing Thanksgiving baskets for out-of-work members and needy families in the community, and, in what has also become a tradition, they broke last years record.
