Sadly, we are again asking for donations to the IAM Disaster Relief Fund. This time, it’s to help our brothers and sisters in and around Joplin, MO, which was devastated by the May 22 killer tornado.

US Airways retiree, Tom McCormack, and the IAMAW Potomac Air Lodge Pittsburgh Retirees’ Club help the less fortunate in Panama.  They collect and distribute items that are simply discarded in the United States, but that are desperately needed by the poor in Panama.

The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Union, through the Local Lodge 764 Community Services Committee, hosted the first Canadian Blood Services Bloodmobile on Tuesday, January 11, 2011.  Since each blood donation can touch the lives of three recipients, collectively 117 hospital patients were impacted by giving blood as a team. The Bloodmobile will be returning June 23 & August 18, 2011.

Community Services Classes

In 2009, a group of brothers and sisters gathered at the William W. Winpisinger Education and Technology Center (W3) to collaborate regarding community service and unemployment issues.  Using their expertise, a curriculum was developed to share with our membership.

Looking to set the course for the IAM Retirees Department for 2009 and beyond, a small group of IAM retirees joined me in Foxwoods, CT this past February for an extensive strategy session. The group discussed mobilization efforts, issues impacting IAM retirees, ways to bridge the gap between retirees and younger generations and the 5th International Retirees’ Conference.
