SkyTeam Unions Land in Atlanta to Support Delta Flight Attendants

The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) and International Transport Workers Federation (ITF)-affiliated unions from the SkyTeam airline alliance today held strategic meetings and informational picketing at Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, Delta's largest hub, to support Delta Air Lines Flight Attendants' campaign for IAM representation.

Illustrating the global reach of the IAM’s Delta Flight Attendant organizing campaign, IAM Delta organizers this week were greeted with tremendous support as campaign activities expanded to London. Dozens of Delta Flight Attendants on layover signed election authorization cards at IAM visibility events far away from Delta management’s intimidating eyes. Unionized Flight Attendants from American Airlines, Air France and Iberia Regional also stopped by to offer their support and encouragement to Delta Flight Attendants.

Delta to Shut Down Comair

Delta Air Lines announced Friday plans to shut down its commuter subsidiary Comair Inc. The IAM represents 224 aircraft maintenance and related workers at the airline who will be affected by the closure. Recognizing that Comair was having financial difficulties, IAM District Lodge 142 had attempted to negotiate an agreement that would address Delta’s attempt to reduce costs while providing for the future of Comair and the members the IAM represents. The IAM’s request for future job security was not met with a response.

NMB Dismisses Passenger Service Charges Against Delta

International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) General Vice President Robert Roach, Jr. today condemned the National Mediation Board (NMB)’s indefensible dismissal of the IAM’s 2010 Delta Air Lines Fleet Service election interference complaint. 

“The Machinists Union disagrees wholeheartedly with this decision,” said Roach. “The NMB’s conclusions do not accurately reflect the illegal actions undertaken by Delta Air Lines during the election.”
