International Women’s Day, Held on March 8, 2023, Let’s “Embrace Equity”!

International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the women’s rights movement and bringing attention to issues such as gender equality and abuse against women.

This year’s theme is “Embracing Equity”. We can all truly embrace equity, because equity means creating an inclusive world for all. And each of us can play a part. By celebrating women’s achievements, raising awareness about discrimination, taking action to drive gender parity by bargaining solid CBAs, we can all make an impact. We can all challenge gender stereotypes, call out discrimination when we see it, draw attention to bias, and seek out inclusion in our workplaces and in our communities. Collective activism is what drives change. From grassroots action to wide-scale momentum, we can all embrace equity.

The IAM’s members know about grassroots efforts. The IAM has fought for many changes in the workplace to address issues of equity and inclusion—a fight that continues today. We cannot do that without the support of our Members and the help of constituency groups like Coalition Labor Union Women (CLUW). The primary purpose of CLUW is to unify all union women in a strong organization to determine and seek remedies to the common problems and concerns and to develop action programs within the framework of the labor movement to effectively promote change.
