Ohio IAM Local 1943 Ratifies Strong New Contract with Cleveland-Cliffs

Members of IAM Local 1943 overwhelmingly ratified a new four-year collective bargaining agreement covering more than 2,000 workers at Cleveland-Cliffs steel mill in Middletown, OH.

The four-year contract provides significant wage increases of nearly 4% across the board each year of the agreement while locking in lower healthcare premiums. The membership also gained improvements throughout the contract, including vacation, increased pay grades for some job classifications, increased sickness and accident benefits, and dental benefits.

“Congratulations to the membership on their new agreement,” said IAM Eastern Territory General Vice President David Sullivan. “A big thank you to President and Directing Business Representative Shawn Coffey and the entire Local 1943 Executive Board for their efforts at the bargaining table. This contract not only delivers increased benefits for our members but also provides security for them and their families.”

“We’re pleased with the outcome of the negotiations and the ratification vote,” said Local 1943 PDBR Shawn Coffey. “This contract provides a lot of gains for our hard-working members. My thanks go out to our Negotiating Committee and the membership.”
