Report Shows Strong Correlation Between Trade Deficit and Job Loss

“Trade Deficits and Manufacturing Job Loss: Correlation and Causality”, a recent report from the Economic Policy Institute, reaffirms that there is a strong correlation between the U.S.’s skyrocketing trade deficit and manufacturing job loss.

The rising trade deficit accounted for over a fifth of the job loss in manufacturing between 2000 and 2003, according to the report. The U.S. trade deficit was a record $723.6 billion in 2005.
