TCU Member Nancy Peterson Appointed Director of Montana Agriculture Department

April 21, 2003 – Nancy Peterson, a member of District 2513 employed by Amtrak in Havre, Montana, has been appointed Director of the Montana State Department of Agriculture. She was named to the post November 10 by RCPL-endorsed Governor-elect Brian Schweitzer (D).

“I recognized her leadership skills, her ability to reach across Montana, her understanding of agriculture from top to bottom,” said Governor-elect Schweitzer at the press conference announcing the appointment.

Said Peterson, “I am extremely proud to be here today. It is a new day. What an awesome opportunity to serve producers in the Big Sky Country.”

Peterson brings numerous talents and many years of experience to the job. In addition to working as a ticket agent for the railroad since 1991, Peterson, 49, has over 30 years as a farm owner/operator. She currently runs her 2,600-acre farm and ranch and oversees management of her mother’s farm as well. She previously served seven years as chairwoman of the Farm Services Agency State Committee, appointed by the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture during the Clinton administration.

TCU President Robert Scardelletti expressed his best wishes to Sister Peterson on her appointment and stated that this appointment is an honor for both Nancy and TCU.
