|  | International                      PresidentSteve Elliott is President of the United Service Workers                      of America. In that post, he also serves as an International                      Vice President. At age 18 he organized his auto shop into                      the United Auto Workers. In 1972, he became a full-time UAW                      organizer. By 1979, he had organized almost all car dealers                      in his local’s jurisdiction. Wanting a new challenge,                      he became organizing director of an independent local based                      in Queens, New York. In 1987, he became the local’s President                      and the United Service Workers of America was formed of seven                      local unions. Steve was then elected National President of                      USWA. Under his leadership, the USWA has grown to some 30,000                      members from many occupations.
