Cordone Re-Elected to DNC Senior Caucus

IAM Community Services and Retirees Director Maria Cordone was re-elected as Executive Vice Chair of the Democratic National Committee Seniors Coordinating Council during the recent fall meeting of the 2009 Democratic National Committee in Austin, TX.

“Seniors could very well swing the 2010 mid-term elections and the 2012 presidential race,” said Cordone. “We must ensure seniors are a driving force in the Democratic Party.”

The Council also elected Steve Regenstreif from the American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees as Chair; re-elected Frank Stella (American Federation of Teachers) and Max Richtman (National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare) as Vice Chairs; and elected former AFL-CIO Executive Vice President Linda Chavez-Thompson as Treasurer.

Delegates also discussed health care and expressed concern about the current debate and the need to push reform through.

“It is up to us to educate our fellow senior citizens,” said Cordone. “We will battle misinformation, and we will fight to ensure all Americans get decent health care.”
