According to a New York Times/CBS poll released late last week, only eight percent of the American people want the members of this Congress re-elected. And 81 percent believe the lawmakers should not be re-elected.
“Today’s New York Times poll is the worst possible news for professional politicians, but it’s actually great news for the 31 million Americans idled by this Grave Recession,” said Rick Sloan, acting executive director of Ur Union of Unemployed, or UCubed. “Only by addressing our nation’s jobs crisis can members of Congress save their own jobs. And only by enacting a bold, broad and bipartisan jobs bill – a bill that directly puts Americans back to work – will they lower the voters’ anger.
“This poll serves as a WARN notice to elected officials. They have 100 days until the scheduled Congressional recess in August. If jobless Americans are not called back to work or offered jobs by then, the politicians should start revising their resumes,” said Sloan. “November 2nd will see voters firing incumbents left and right.”
