IAM Mourns Retiree, EAP Activist Buddy Sugg

Long-time IAM member John “Buddy” Sugg, 73, died last week after a lifetime of serving fellow IAM members in a variety of roles, including certified alcohol/drug counselor, liaison to IAM members and Employee Assistance Programs (EAP), and non-stop supporter of the IAM’s Retirees, Community and Membership Services Department.
“Buddy Sugg was such a good man and helped so many people,” said Maria Cordone, retired Retirees, Community and Membership Services Director. “There wasn’t anything he couldn’t do for our department, and there wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for any one of our members in need. He was able to reach people with compassion and humor. Buddy will be missed.”
Sugg worked at Eastern Air Lines for 19 years. While there, he helped found “People of Eastern Helping People,” a non-profit charity that coordinated mercy airlifts to poverty-torn countries, delivering thousands of pounds of food, medical supplies. After leaving Eastern Air Lines, Sugg worked for the American Red Cross and started his own consulting business, Cope Consulting, working as an independent substance abuse counselor.
