The Negotiating Committee for members of Local 1564 in Oconomowoc, WI, was joined recently by staff members from District 10, for the week-long Negotiation Preparation for Bargaining Committees program at the Winpisinger Center in Southern Maryland. The local represents employees at Silgan Containers, which manufacture food storage cans.

The bargaining prep program, which was added to the Winpisinger Center curriculum in 2006, provides bargaining committees with legal and economic guidance, as well as the latest research about the financial condition and future prospects of their company and the industry in general.

The current contract with Silgan expires January 31, 2011.

“The amount of information to absorb, combined with trying to take full advantage of all the resources at the Center, can be almost overwhelming,” said District 10 ADBR Scott Parr. “But this Committee was diligent from the start and took full advantage of their time there.”

“In addition to good food and good camaraderie, the Winpisinger Center is such a wealth of knowledge,” said Local 1564 Shop Committee Chair Linda J. Kleinschmidt. “I hope every local lodge has the opportunity to take advantage of this remarkable resource.”
