IAM Local 1297 President and District 54 Communicator Fred Confer was recently presented with the Ashland-Wayne-Holmes Central Labor Council’s Crain/Ellison Award in recognition of his many years of service to his community and fellow union members.

“Fred’s continued work for our membership, community and Guide Dogs of America is extraordinary and inspiring,” said District 54 President & Directing Business Representative T. Dean Wright. “I am very proud that he is the leader of my local lodge and proud to call him my brother and friend.”

“He’s been active in the community for years,” Labor Council President Barb Phillips told the Ashland Times-Gazette in an article about Confer winning the award. She added that Confer’s experiences and his dedication to worker rights made him an obvious candidate for the award. “With everything that’s happening in the economy now… he’s just the poster child for hope.”
