No Freedom in Colombia Free Trade Agreement

The Colombia Free Trade Agreement is a betrayal of fundamental human rights. Last year, 51 trade unionists were slain in the streets of Colombia. Over 2,850 trade unionists were murdered in the last 25 years. And so far in 2011, 17 trade unionists have been killed. These atrocities, combined with Colombia’s negligent child labor enforcement laws, reaffirm the IAM’s resistance to a free trade agreement with one of the most corrupt and volatile governments of the world.

“The IAM is committed to fighting for a new model of trade agreements – one that is based on fairness and that makes workers and the communities in which they live the priority,” says IAM International President Tom Buffenbarger.
