IAM Mourns Grand Lodge Auditor Bill Dameron

Grand Lodge Auditor Bill Dameron passed away on June 24, 2012 after an illness.

“The IAM has lost a devoted family man and loyal trade unionist,” said General Secretary-Treasurer Robert Roach, Jr. “Bill Dameron was an integral part of this union for more than 30 years, much of which was spent steering the financial future of our organization. His ability to create a comfortable atmosphere and keep a cool-head in difficult situations was second to none. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. He will truly be missed.”

Dameron, 56, joined the IAM in 1974 while working for Ogden Aviation as a member of Local 1747 in Alexandria, VA. Prior to becoming a Grand Lodge Auditor in 1998, Dameron served as Local 1747 Secretary-Treasurer from 1979 to 1997. He also served as a Shop Steward and as a member of the local organizing, contract negotiations, education and legislative committees. Dameron was a delegate to the district convention, a member of the finance committee and Chairman of the District Ground Safety Committee. He was a delegate to the Virginia State Council and Central Labor Council and a Vice President of the Virginia State Council from 1995 to 1997.

Dameron is survived by his wife Kathy and two adult children.
