IAM Reaches Tentative Agreement with Caterpillar

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Joliet, IL, August 15, 2012 – The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) District 8 today announced that a tentative agreement with Caterpillar Inc. will be presented for ratification to members of Local 851 in Joliet, IL who have been on strike against the heavy equipment maker since May 1, 2012.

“The proposed six-year contract contains a number of improvements over previous offers,” said District 8 Business Representative Steve Jones. “While it does not address every issue for every member, it deserves to be brought to the membership for a vote.”

Details of the proposed contract, which was reached late Tuesday with the assistance of the federal mediator, will be withheld until members can be notified. A ratification vote will take place Friday, August 17, 2012.

Under the IAM Constitution, a simple majority of those casting ballots is required for a tentative agreement to be ratified. Additional information and details of the proposed agreement will be posted on the Local 851 website at http://www.iamll851.com/.
