Equal Pay Day raises awareness about how long women must work in order to make the equivalent wages as men. In 2013, the day fell on April 9, meaning women had to work all of 2012 and an additional 99 days into 2013 to make what men earned the previous year. The National Committee on Pay Equity started the observance in 1996. Women currently earn 77-cents on the dollar of what men make in the United States and for women of color, the situation is even worse.
