Texas Bus Drivers Unanimously Approve Contract

A group of 92 Tornado Bus Company drivers stood in solidarity to unanimously ratify an agreement that will pay them at the top wage scale per route and provide paid vacation, sick days and holidays. IAM members at the Texas-based company will also receive meal allowances, rest periods, health insurance and a 401k.

Because the employees’ native language is Spanish, they attended the IAM Spanish Leadership I Program at the IAM’s William W. Winpisinger Center in Hollywood, MD. After the classes, the stewards were able to educate their co-workers back home on how to unionize and get the best possible contract for them and their families. Spanish-speaking IAM Representatives Javier Almazan and Juan Negron assisted the Automotive Department with the campaign.

“We couldn’t be more pleased for our Tornado Bus Company employees that have locked in a higher quality of life for themselves and their families.” said Western Territory GVP Gary Allen. “This IAM contract means respect in the workplace, job security and a better future for working families. We congratulate Tornado Bus Company drivers on their new contract.”
