IAM Organizing Grows in Caribbean

The IAM Southern Territory is continuing its organizing success in the U.S. Virgin Islands. In two separate elections in a 32-day period, Local Lodge 340 has added all the bargaining unit employees at Waste Management on the islands of St. Thomas, St. Croix and St. Johns.

Over 100 new workers, including office and clerical staff, voted to join the IAM.

“This Local Lodge understands the importance of organizing,” said Southern Territory General Vice President Robert Martinez, Jr. “They get the fact that there is strength and bargaining power in numbers. I am extremely proud of the leadership of this Local Lodge, as well as the courage and hard work of the Waste Management Organizing Team who assisted the Lodge in securing the wins.”
