IAM Members On Strike At Calspan To Hold Rally

IAM District 65 Business Representative Pete Cooney addresses strikers and supporters of IAM Local 1180 on strike at Calspan in Buffalo, NY.

IAM Local 1180 and District 65 will rally on Monday, July 7, 2014 in Buffalo, NY as a show of solidarity and support for IAM members and their families on strike at science and technology company Calspan.

IAM members at Calspan have been on strike since May 13, after weeks of negotiations with the company.

In the elapsed time the company made an offer that produced no significant changes from the deal previously rejected by members. Members unanimously rejected bringing the offer up for a vote.

Calspan has only met for two more bargaining sessions, which produced yet another package with few changes. The membership voted on the most recent offer June 30, again overwhelming rejecting the offer.

Calspan has proposed draconian changes to work hours, schedules, mandatory overtime, travel-for-work pay and subcontracting language.

Calspan has maintained a lackadaisical approach to returning to the bargaining table from the onset. While members and their families – who live and contribute to the surrounding communities – continue manning picket lines, the company has not committed to any dates for further negotiations. IAM Negotiators remain ready, willing and able to meet at any time to reach a deal that maintains important provisions to the current agreement.
