Connecticut Local 1746 Members Continue 30-Year Tradition of Giving Back

IAM Local 1746 members once again showed the true meaning of solidarity and service through this year’s annual Coat and Winter Accessory Drive, organized by the Community Service Committee, made up mainly of the same dedicated members who also serve on the Women’s Committee.

The collection was jointly coordinated by Chelsea Pullen, Co-Chair of the Community Service Committee, and Thérèse Hervieux, Co-Chair of the Local 1746 Women’s Committee, whose leadership helped ensure another successful year.

Thanks to the generosity of members across the campus, the drive collected approximately 22 full contractor-size bags filled with coats and winter accessories for those in need. Donation boxes were placed at 14 building entrances, making it easy for members to participate and help keep their community warm during the winter months.

“Once again, IAM members proved that when we come together, we don’t just build a stronger union, we build a stronger community,” said IAM Eastern Territory General Vice President David Sullivan. “Our thanks go out to all involved, from the volunteers to the donors, for making this a successful outcome.”

“The success of the drive would not have been possible without strong support in transporting and setting up collection boxes around the campus, assisting with collecting and bagging donations, and loading a van packed to the top with contributions,” said Thérèse Hervieux.

“This collection has been happening for at least 30 years,” continued Hervieux. “While the recipient organizations have changed over time, the generosity of IAM members has always remained strong.”

This year’s donations were warmly welcomed by the Community Renewal Team, continuing the IAM’s long-standing commitment to giving back and supporting neighbors in need.

The success of the drive was made possible with the continued support of Local 1746 President Howie Huestis, who helped secure paid time for the collection, assisted with setting up donation boxes around the campus, helped collect and bag the coats, and supported the transportation of donations. Organizers also extended their sincere thanks to the employees of Pratt & Whitney for their generous donations, which once again made a meaningful difference for those in need.
