The 13th annual IAM District 9 Veterans Brunch gathered nearly 100 attendees to honor and celebrate veterans. Forty military veterans were invited guests at the event.
“It’s a privilege to host this event every year because we take pride in our members who are veterans and any veteran or family member that is connected to our District,” said IAM District 9 Assistant Directing Business Representative Tracy Gardner. “Veterans have given so much to our nation and our communities that we cannot forget, and we hope these donations that we raised can help them in some small way.”
Local 41 presented a check to the IAM Veterans Services Program for over $11,000 from their golf tournament this year. More than $35,000 has been raised for the Veterans Services Program in the last three years.
“District 9 and all of our locals; Local 1345, 1745, 2782, 313, 41, 660, 688, 777, and 822 are a family,” said IAM District 9 Directing Business Representative Jason Tetidrick. “We celebrate veterans and the service they provide to keep our country strong.”
The guest speaker was Jon DePriest of Gateway PGA, PGA Hope (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere). The program offers 6-8 week courses that help teach adaptive golf techniques for veterans with disabilities. The program has helped over 600 veterans since 2013.
“District 9 has a venerable 123 year history with the IAM Union. Many dedicated union Brothers and Sisters have worked in Missouri and Illinois in jobs that are the backbone of the American economy,” said IAM Midwest Territory General Vice President Sam Cicinelli. “I’m proud that they host community events like this one that have a great impact in their community.”
