The IAM Union strongly supports New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill’s nomination of Kevin Jarvis to serve as New Jersey’s Commissioner of Labor and Workforce Development.
The son of a proud IAM Local 1812 member, Jarvis has committed himself to advocating for working people and strengthening labor protections across the state of New Jersey throughout his career.
“Kevin Jarvis has consistently demonstrated his mission to aid the advancement of working people,” said IAM Union International President Brian Bryant. “He has fought for working families for his entire career in different capacities and comes from a proud IAM Union household.”
Jarvis is currently a Partner at O’Brien, Belland & Bushinsky where he works primarily in labor law, including contract negotiations, grievance and arbitration hearings, and unfair labor practice matters, appearing numerous times before the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) and the New Jersey Public Employment Relations Commission (PERC) to stand up for workers’ rights.
“The IAM is confident that Kevin Jarvis will serve New Jersey’s working people with integrity and a clear understanding of the challenges facing today’s workforce,” said IAM Union Eastern Territory General Vice President David Sullivan. “Kevin knows the union difference first-hand and has spent years defending workers as a litigator.”
Before joining the firm in 2010, Jarvis served nearly four years as Chief of Staff of the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development, where he helped oversee approximately 3,700 employees and managed a combined state and federal budget exceeding $600 million, while coordinating departmental policy with the Governor’s Office and the Legislature.
Jarvis started his career with the New Jersey General Assembly Democratic Office, where he served as a Research Associate for committees on Labor, Health, State Government, and Human Services, and later as Assistant Director of Constituent Relations and Assistant Director of Policy and Planning.
He then became Legislative Affairs Coordinator for the New Jersey State AFL-CIO, championing legislation to improve working conditions and protect workers’ rights, all while completing law school, graduating magna cum laude from Seton Hall School of Law.
IAM Union urges the New Jersey Senate to confirm Jarvis’s nomination and looks forward to working with him to promote fairness, safety, and opportunity for all workers in the Garden State.
The IAM Union (International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers) represents approximately 600,000 active and retired members in aerospace, defense, airlines, shipbuilding, rail, transit, healthcare, automotive, and other industries across North America.
