AGUADILLA, P.R., Dec. 2, 2025 – IAM Union members at Lufthansa Technik Puerto Rico (LTPR) have voted to keep their union representation, defeating a decertification attempt pushed by the anti-worker National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation. The result is a decisive victory for the skilled technicians who keep aircraft safe and reliable. The vote sends a clear message to Lufthansa Technik management that union-busting tactics have no place in Puerto Rico.
LTPR workers and allies across Puerto Rico have stood united in urging the company to negotiate a fair and just contract. This vote reaffirms their commitment to solidarity and strengthens their fight for a collective bargaining agreement that reflects their professionalism, experience, and the critical role they play in maintaining aviation safety.
In May 2022, more than 200 aircraft mechanics and related workers at Lufthansa Technik Puerto Rico voted to join the IAM, determined to secure dignity and fairness on the job. But instead of negotiating in good faith, management delayed and ignored workers’ voices. In 2023, the IAM called on the National Mediation Board to step in as a federal mediator. Verdi, the German union representing Lufthansa workers across Europe, has also urged Lufthansa AG – the parent company – to intervene and help resolve the Puerto Rico contract dispute.
The decertification attempt was part of a long pattern of management-driven delays in the bargaining process, which has been stalled for nearly three years. While Lufthansa Technik continues to profit from the dedication and technical expertise of its workforce, the company has refused to offer a contract that recognizes workers’ value or improves their quality of life.
“Lufthansa Technik must now come to the table ready to negotiate a contract that honors these workers’ skills and contributions,” said IAM International President Brian Bryant. “The workers have spoken loudly and clearly: they want respect, they want stability, and they want a fair contract. The IAM will not rest until they get the contract they deserve.”
“This vote is a powerful testament to what solidarity can achieve,” said IAM Southern Territory General Vice President Craig Martin. “Lufthansa Technik workers stood together against outside interference and made it clear that they want a strong union fighting for them at the table. Now it’s time for the company to respect that mandate and bargain in good faith.”
“Our members in Puerto Rico showed tremendous resolve in the face of intimidation and delay tactics,” said IAM Air Transport Territory General Vice President Richie Johnsen. “They know their worth, and they know that union representation is the path to better wages, safer working conditions, and a more secure future. Their unity is inspiring, and the IAM is with them every step of the way.”
Workers on the shop floor echoed that sentiment, emphasizing the importance of standing together.
“We stayed united because we know what we bring to this company,” said Lufthansa Technik Aircraft Mechanic Ilianalyn Delgado. “We keep these aircraft flying safely. We deserve respect, a voice on the job, and a contract that reflects our work. This vote shows we’re not backing down.”

AGUADILLA, P.R., 2 de diciembre de 2025 – Los miembros de la Unión IAM en Lufthansa Technik Puerto Rico (LTPR) votaron a favor de mantener su representación sindical, derrotando un intento de descertificación impulsado por la Fundación Nacional para la Defensa Legal del Derecho al Trabajo, una organización antitrabajadora. El resultado representa una victoria decisiva para los técnicos especializados que mantienen las aeronaves seguras y confiables. La votación envía un mensaje claro a la gerencia de Lufthansa Technik de que las tácticas en contra de las uniones no tienen cabida en Puerto Rico.
Los trabajadores de LTPR y aliados en toda la isla se han mantenido unidos, instando a la empresa a negociar un convenio justo y digno. Esta votación reafirma su compromiso con la solidaridad y fortalece su lucha por un convenio de negociación colectiva que refleje su profesionalismo, su experiencia y el papel crítico que desempeñan en la seguridad de la aviación.
En mayo de 2022, más de 200 mecánicos de aeronaves y trabajadores relacionados en Lufthansa Technik Puerto Rico votaron para unirse a la IAM, decididos a asegurar dignidad y justicia en el trabajo. Pero en lugar de negociar de buena fe, la gerencia retrasó el proceso e ignoró la voz de los trabajadores. En 2023, la IAM solicitó a la Junta Nacional de Mediación intervenir como mediadora federal. Verdi, la unión alemana que representa a los trabajadores de Lufthansa en toda Europa, también ha instado a Lufthansa AG –empresa matriz– a intervenir y ayudar a resolver la disputa de convenio en Puerto Rico.
El intento de descertificación fue parte de un largo patrón de retrasos impulsados por la gerencia en el proceso de negociación, el cual ha estado estancado por casi tres años. Mientras Lufthansa Technik continúa beneficiándose de la dedicación y la pericia técnica de su fuerza laboral, la compañía se ha negado a ofrecer un convenio que reconozca el valor de los trabajadores o mejore su calidad de vida.
“La gerencia de Lufthansa Technik debe ahora llegar a la mesa lista para negociar un convenio que honre las destrezas y aportaciones de estos trabajadores”, dijo Brian Bryant, presidente internacional de la IAM. “Los trabajadores han hablado alto y claro: quieren respeto, quieren estabilidad y quieren un convenio justo. La IAM no descansará hasta que obtengan el convenio que merecen.”
“Esta votación es un testimonio poderoso de lo que la solidaridad puede lograr”, dijo Craig Martin, vicepresidente general del Territorio del Sur de la IAM. “Los trabajadores de Lufthansa Technik se mantuvieron unidos frente a las interferencias externas y dejaron claro que quieren una unión fuerte luchando por ellos en la mesa de negociación. Ahora es el momento de que la compañía respete ese mandato y negocie de buena fe.”
“Nuestros miembros en Puerto Rico demostraron una enorme determinación ante tácticas de intimidación y retraso”, dijo Richie Johnsen, vicepresidente general del Territorio de Transporte Aéreo de la IAM. “Ellos conocen su valor y saben que la representación de la unión es el camino hacia mejores salarios, condiciones de trabajo más seguras y un futuro más estable. Su unidad es inspiradora, y la IAM está con ellos en cada paso del camino.”
Los trabajadores expresaron ese mismo sentir, destacando la importancia de mantenerse unidos.
“Nos mantuvimos unidos porque sabemos lo que aportamos a esta compañía,” afirmó Ilianalyn Delgado, mecánico de aeronaves de Lufthansa Technik. “Mantenemos estas aeronaves volando de manera segura. Merecemos respeto, una voz en el trabajo y un contrato que refleje nuestro esfuerzo. Esta votación demuestra que no daremos un paso atrás.”
La Unión IAM hace un llamado a Lufthansa Technik Puerto Rico a terminar sus tácticas dilatorias, respetar la decisión de sus trabajadores y regresar a la mesa de negociación preparado para lograr un convenio fuerte y justo.
